Drug and Alcohol Outpatient or Day Care Services
An option for patients who either cannot afford or cannot take the time out of there lives to access Residential or In-patient treatment is Day Care (also known as Structured Day Care) treating Drug and Alcohol addiction issues.
Defined as intensive community based support, treatment and rehabilitation. They offer much of what is offered in Residential Treatment clinics but in the community and patients attend on a daily basis for a set and agreed number of days/hours a week.
Availability of Drug and Alcohol Day Care Services
Generally Drug and Alcohol Day Care Programmes are situated in larger Urban centres and are not always available everywhere.
Whilst many of these programmes are extremely well run and provide excellent services there is very little evidence to support their effectiveness as no large scale evaluation of Structured Day Care has been carried out. This should not, however, dissuade any prospective patient from exploring this type of Addiction treatment as an option and many of the treatment providers we work with do offer exceptionally good quality Day Care services.
In addition to allowing the patient to remain at home whilst attending a structured treatment programme Drug and Alcohol Day Care is often a more financially accessible option for people.
