Aftercare
What is Aftercare?
It is commonly recognised that any programme of treatment is necessarily an ongoing process comprising many different elements and treatment types.
Aftercare is a package of support that is planned with the patient to support them when they leave structured treatment such as In-patient detox or Residential Rehab. The aim of aftercare is to sustain treatment gains and further develop coping strategies and ongoing recovery. This is equally applicable to Drug and Alcohol treatment and treatment for other problems such as Eating Disorders or other disorders (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and Addictions (Gambling, Shopping etc.)
Aftercare may include specific interventions such as ongoing 1-1 therapy. It may also include support such as life skills and the development of strategies to address preventing relapse.
In many cases treatment centres and clinics we refer to will offer formal Aftercare within the price paid for treatment for a set period of time following treatment. We would always recommend attending wherever possible as you will already have familiarised yourself with the particular treatment philosophy and approach of the centre where you were in treatment. You will also be able to maintain contact with the staff with whom you worked throughout structured treatment.
However, should treatment have been accessed overseas or in a different area of the country treatment-now.com can source the appropriate aftercare package to support you in your ongoing recovery.
